A new recall attempt has been started against West Ada School Board member Amy Johnson over the fact that she works for Blue Cross.
The leader of the recall effort is has been a leader of the opposition to the schools mask mandates. Previously, Johnson and board members Ed Klopfenstein, Steve Smylie, Phillip Neuhoff and Rene Ozuna faced recall efforts over their attempts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Two of the board members resigned and the other recalls failed to get on the ballot.
Idaho has a Queen of the Hill provision, so if the recall gets to the ballot, the vote must top the number of votes that the board members got in the last election for the recall to succeed.
Petitioners would need 2578 signatures (50% of turnout). West Ada has had numerous school board fights as many members (though not Johnson) were originally appointed to the board after a 2016 recall led to the ouster of two members and the resignation of two others.
