Fairmont Councilmen David Kennedy and Barry Bledsoe are now facing petitions following repeated comments alleged to be racist and derogatory against LGBTQ+ people, some in Facebook posts. Bledsoe's alleged to have called Senator and VP nominee Kamala Harris a "hoe" and called a state Delegate "satanic." Kennedy has been censured by the council (6-3 vote) and has faced calls for his resignation.
Petitioners had to redo the wording to get it approved. They will need 2461 signatures (20% of registered voters).
