Michigan: Lansing City Councilmember resigned after petitions approved

Following a judge ruling that a petition Lansing City Councilman Brandon Betz could move forward with minor changes, Betz resigned the seat. The first petition filed against Betz had been rejected by the Election Commission due to clarity issues.

The recall effort was over vulgar text messages he sent to a Black activist.  Betz has been stripped of committee assignments and "asked to consider resigning by the Ingham County Democratic Party." Petitioner needed about 2500 signatures to get on the ballot.
