Ballotpedia's Annual Recall Analysis

Some good material from Ballotpedia. I will have mine at some point soon. It looks like they have moved to calculating by each official rather than by each jurisdiction, so our numbers should be similar.

Texas: Council looking to set date for Rusk City Councilmen recall vote

Looks like enough signatures have been handed in to get the recall against Councilman Ken Ferrara and Jan Pate on the ballot. The council is debating setting an election date.

Both over alleged "highly inappropriate comments to the city secretary" Rosalyn Brown by Ferrara. Ferrara has since apologized and was reprimanded by the council. 702 signatures were handed in against Ferrera and 701 against Pate. 637 valids are needed to get the recall on the ballot.

Mayor Angela Raiborn has backed the recall effort and the two councilmembers are suing.

Tennessee: Bristol debating conduct standards; City Council had removed recall law after 2004 recall fight

In 2004, Mayor Kelly Graham was voted out in a recall (Vice Mayor Jim Messimer and Councilman David Schumaker survived the vote). Following that the City Council got rid of the recall law. No word on whether it could come back in the story about conduct standards, but well worth noting.

Township Supervisor Adam Heikkila (R) lost his recall vote on election day to Rande Johnson (D) 35-33%, with an independent candidate Kraig Dingman getting 32%. Dingman, who was the lead petitioner, has since been appointed a trustee.

Following the verification of 4533 signatures in the recall effort against Mayor Jasiel Correia II, the City Council has asked for his resignation. Correia is contesting the signatures.

Michigan: Bay County Clerk upbraided for mishandling Kawkawlin Township recall effort

The August petition against Kawkawlin Township Supervisor Dennis Bragiel over a no vote on wind turbines was mishandled by County Clerk Cynthia Luczak, according to the Michigan Bureau of Elections. The Bureau claims that enough signatures were handed in, but Luczak's failed to notify Bragiel, preventing him from challenging the petition. The recall can't take place because of the errors.

Luczak also seemed to make a major error on another recall petition, certifying that it would appear on the August 7 ballot, even though state law prevented a recall appearing on that day.

Massachusetts: Longmeadow Town Meeting will take up school board recall provision

The City Council held a hearing over a charter amendment to change the recall law and possibly lower the signature limit.
