Wisconsin: Walker facing recall primary

Somehow this escaped me. On May 8, Governor Walker will also face a recall primary. His opponent is an 23-year old activist and Occupy Madison protester named Arthur Kohl-Riggs, who has been known to dress up in Abraham Lincoln costumes. You can read more about him here.
Note that Walker refers to the Republican-supported candidates running in the Democratic primaries "placeholders." The Democrats use the term "fake."

  1. They aren't fake candidates. Votes cast for them will be counted, and if they get a majority, they will win the seat. They are fake Democrats.

IF I remember my grade school math, placeholders are zeros used to keep a decimal in the right place.

Why not call them what they are? Zombie candidates. Not really dead, but not really alive either, they shuffle across the political landscape fated never to find a purpose that might sustain them.

  2. I'm stymied by the best term -- both of these seem to be missing the point. Fake implies that the goal is to fool people into voting for them, and placeholders implies that there is a place that needs to be held. The whole goal of these candidates is to delay the recall for one month so they all fall out on the same day.
