Oklahoma: Norman Mayor and city council recalls face August 14 deadline

The recall efforts against Norman Mayor Breea Clark and City Council members Kate Bierman, Alison Petrone, Sereta Wilson and Stephen Holman is facing an August 14 deadline, and the earliest date for a special election would be January 12, 2021. The recall would also result in preventing the council from having a quorum, which could result in a problem in voting to schedule a replacement race.

The recall is over a vote to cut the police department's proposed budget by $865,000 (it appears not to be an actual cut -- the police wanted a big increase and got only a smaller one). There are also complaints about the council's push to require masks to stave off the coronavirus.

Petitioners would need 25% of registered voters in 30 days. The recall of Clark would require over 18,000 signatures.
