Wall Street Journal sees a bad moon rising on the recall

This article looks at the bad signs for the recall proponents. Hey, I saw this coming!

  1. At this point in any close election there is much hand-wringing and anxiety among the political Nervous Nellies. That nervousness will be trumpeted by a partisan press (WSJ) as evidence predicting future failure. Such articles are a staple of horse-race reporting. Give it the attention it deserves.

  2. I would agree about the hand-wringing/anxiety position -- there is still a ways to go here. And certainly if this was a WSJ (or any other clearly advocate) op-ed, it should be taken with a blood-pressure spiking grain of salt. I would say in their defense (not that they need it from me) that the WSJ's news reporting is nonpartisan and unquestionably first rate.
