Recall spending tops $63.5 million, most expensive race in Wisconsin history

No surprise here, and when all reporting is said and done, it may hit that $100 million figure. But I have to wonder about the focus on Citizens United. It certainly would have been devastating to the union efforts, but would it have harmed Walker? The independent expenditures could have simply been donated to him under Wisconsin's unlimited donations for someone facing a recall law. Also, most of the money seems to be donated by individuals, not corporations. These individuals may have given the money to advocacy groups, but they could easily have spent it themselves on independent issue ads. I don't think that CU deals with that. I'll be interested in hearing if I'm wrong.
